Trends in the cookware industry, like most industries, are set and determined by what consumers are buying. Trends will follow the consumer's preferences and interests based on supply and demand and the purchasing power of individuals. Currently there are a few shifts in the consumer market bringing recently developed technologies to the fore front of the market.

Induction cooking has seen in increase in the past year due to its highly safe and energy efficient nature and technology. The burners do not get hot; only the pan is heated which allows for far less energy to be used. Not to mention the increased safety of not having hot burners which children and adults alike can burn themselves with. The induction cooktops are replacing electric and gas stoves throughout the market and are gaining in popularity as society moves to be more efficient.

Microwaves have also been gaining in popularity recently due to their versatile and quick cooking methods. Microwaves preserve more of the nutrients in food than traditional cooking methods, and have been noted by those individuals seeking a more nutritious diet and lifestyle. Micro organisms are a main concern in food preparation; microwaves heat food at such a high rate that the micro organisms do not have time to incubate in the 5° to 60°C temperature. Of course, microwaves are well known for their faster than average cooking times which is an advantage for busy families.

As far as cookware is concerned, there has been a shift to a more aesthetically pleasing exterior. People want their cookware to be as beautiful as they are and with this, new materials are being developed and used in cookware design and manufacturing. Stainless steel, while it is highly durable, is also used for its high shine bringing aesthetics into your cookware. In addition, glass cookware is on the rise as it is pretty and functional falling into the aesthetics of the current trends.
